As active trainers, we couldn’t find sims that cemented learning at a reasonable price.
We built our own kits over the years and added Quick Start Guides, Exercise Workbooks, Worksheets and Trainer Notes.
This translates to a richer learning experience for both trainers and students.

W. Edwards Deming developed his classic Red Bead Experiment to demonstrate variation in processes. He demonstrated that trying to manage out the “common cause” variation inherent in the process was independent of any management exhortations or slogans.
Instead, the path to true process improvement lies in understanding and controlling the sources of variation.
The Red and Blue Bead Experiment kit is an affordable and interactive activity demonstrating common cause variation in processes. Colored beads represent opportunities for defects in the process. More colored beads mean more issues every day. By controlling what we do in our processes we can reduce the number of colored beads in our day and make days smoother.
Requires no software or batteries to run
Participants will understand first-hand the nature of variability and how to control it.
Get both the Red Bead and Blue Bead Experiment in one kit. Compare the effects of baseline and reduced variation. Show how much more consistent the values are with Blue Beads at 7% compared to Red Beads at 20% colored beads.

For even more learning insights, the Blue Bead Experiment, available exclusively through CICS as a companion to the Red Bead Experiment, shows the effects on a process with reduced variability in performance, due to a reduced number of “defects” in the process as a result of CI activities.

They are Affordable, light to carry, and easy to run
These are the qualities we needed in a good exercise kit. As active trainers, we at CICS couldn’t find sims that cemented learning points quickly and at a reasonable price. We built our own kits and have been successfully incorporating them into out classes over a number of years.
This translates to a richer learning experience for both trainers and classes.
All CICS kits have a Quick Start Guide. The QSG has the critical information needed to run the sim. More complex kits have an optional Exercise Workbook & Trainer Notes with even more exercises that support Lean and Six Sigma and problem-solving courses.
The activities are more meaningful as the key points are written and procedures designed to promote open-ended inquiry and problem solving.
“Designed by trainers, for trainers” is not just a line!
These are the kits Manny and the CICS Team use every day to foster teams, CI thinking, and engage classes in active learning. CICS Learning Kits also support online learning efforts.
Response has been overwhelmingly positive from both colleagues and students.
This translates to a richer learning experience for both trainers and students.
